Morphtrait

This is my little "morphtrait" project I've been working on for a while now. It's due tomorrow at 2, so I'm all for critiques...I think it actually turned out pretty nice. This is a guy in my class and I had to put his face on the animal I was "assigned," which is a shark (hopefully it's obvious).

First time using toned paper for a drawing and using the white charcoal with it. This one was an hour and a half, I think.

I Love Photoshop

This is pretty much awesome. I was bored. Though this is perfectly representative of me...*cough*...I'm not counting any kind of photo-editing as a self-portrait--for my project it has to be me actually drawing the majority of it. Just thought I'd let you know, even though it doesn't really apply to this post...Enjoy!

I went outside with my camping chair to enjoy the awesome overcast weather today and drew the tree I sat in front of--there was a big pile of leaves, needles, and pine cones next to it (hence the scribbling). Both of these were drawn today 3/22/09

Explorations In Graffiti

Did this one today in 119. Says "Dindy," which is Megan's new word for the day, as she tried to say both "nifty" and "dandy" at the same time, and she liked the word, so I commemorated it, graffiti style. 3/22/09

This one actually belongs to my first group of these cards I've been doing--I'm uncertain when I did this, but it was around the end of Feb/beginning of March. I love this one, although I'm sad that my card was too small for what I ended up drawing...

I did this to, once again, emulate Jake Wyatt's kind of style, I'm just really fascinated with the way he does sketches. I'm not gonna tell you what this technically is a picture of, 'cause it's disgraceful, but it looks cool like this. 3/19/09

The last couple hours I've been reading Native American legends for inspiration of stuff to draw. The one above and below are both part of the Apach legend, Destruction of the Bear. The fox who is apparently the hero--possibly in most Apache legends. 3/20/09

This is a bear from the legend. I drew a heart with a knife in it, to try and throw in more of the legend with this little picture--the heart is in pen that I drew with after I filled in all the black, you'll probably have to blow this one up to see it. 3/20/09

This guy looks more like a pretchikus old-person, rather than the cool, hardened warrior I was drawing from...oh well, it still turned out kinda cool. 3/20/09

More of these fun little index card sketches/experiment things. This is an abstraction based on a picture of Mt. Fuji.

This one was my attempt at emulating the style of one of my favorite bloggers from the BYU Animation program, Jake Wyatt.

This was a blind contour of one of my favorite drawings that Brian Kohrman, another BYU blogger, has done, and I then went in with the oil pastel and tried to make it look cool.

New Self-Portrait

I've been doing a lot of random things on some index cards that I found in the recycling bin in my dorm. Here's a nice, almost-Impressionistic-sketch of me. It doesn't look as good online as in real life, but if you saw the real thing, it really looks like me if you squint or see it from afar--adding this to my self-portrait project.

Here is my collage I did for 2D Design; it's a self-portrait that's supposed to reveal something about me--now you all know that I love dirtbiking. I think it was pretty successful. Finished it at 1:30 this morning :P. 3/17/09

I Really Did Use Myself As The Reference

A guy on the internet did 1000 self portraits, I'm taking on a challenge to do as many as I can. He did do abstractions of himself, which is why I can count this one, and I call it, "Self Portrait In Mayan."

Double Self-Portrait

Charcoal, 18" x 24"

This is not the best quality picture--I'll come back later to replace it, once I get the piece back. This is my Double Self-Portrait assignment for Drawing II. I was supposed to draw myself twice, with different expressions and also come up with a way to make the two portraits interact within the same composition. Thus I came up with the mirror idea--real original, I know, but it got the point across that I wanted to make. I can see myself the way that I am and the way I want others to see me as, but somehow I just can't make that side of me match up with the way I really present myself to others.

Finally Finished!

Wow. This is my 3rd 2-D Design project, it is based off a plier-knife thing. The assignment was to do abstractions and sketches and come up with a composition with at least one emphasis point that incorporated at least 5 of the sketches. I really like how this turned out, I was quite nervous up until about an hour ago when it started comin' together. So yes, I just finished it, minutes before Tuesday. Thus I label this piece:

1 1/2 hour session for this little portrait. Charcoal. both of these are on 18 x 24 paper and both done Tuesday, Feb. 17.

This is a 20 minute session with the same model, but I'm using a different approach/technique, and I zoomed in a bit.

Expressions

Here's an ugly wanna-be self-portrait. I will only ever call it a study, though. It's actually more for learning to draw teeth.

This one's kinda freaky, too, and once again, the assignment was more about learning to draw teeth. This one also incorporated trying to learn how your face stretches when you yell. I wasn't angry enough to do it right. 2/4/09

Our first modelf session--this is Allie, she's actually in my ward, I didn't know it 'till this semester, how embarrassing, I know.

Drawing II Stuffs

For a few weeks, we got to pair up and model for the other while they drew certain facial features, then we'd switch.

I think this is my 5th or 6th self portrait ever, I don't like the eyes, I think they're too big, but I guess it's ok, I prefer the style that is light-only--no lines.

Froehliche Valentinstag!

I designed my first Valentine's Day card for my friends. Hope it doesn't look too weird, especially in b/w, but I don't have a color printer, so I didn't bother with color...

Favor

My mom needed a line drawing of the brand-new, soon-to-be-dedicated Draper Temple, because she wanted to print the design onto an edible paper (I think) and put it on cookies for the New Beginnings Young Womens' activity--she does cakes and cupcakes and cookie stuff all the time, check out her site, it's posted on the right.

Abstraction Completed!

It's done! Part A is done! I was really happy with the way this project turned out, and I got lots of good feedback from my peers. Now I just have to choose a section of one of these to to crop and then enlarge to create another, new piece that is compositionally sound (and it has to be 18 x 24).
