Post #82, Now This Blog Has Beaten My Other In Terms Of Posts!

Today I was bored, because I only have 2 classes, so I played with my eyes, they turned creepy, then put one behind a knothole to make it creepier, thus we have Witness--coming soon to theaters...

My Most Recent Painting, For Now

Since I'm on a painting-thing today, I figured I'd throw on this "study" I did in October (08). There was a pumpkin someone got and it was put on the table in my dorm living room, it's still in our dorm, now that I think about it. Anyway I painted the pumpkin and wanted to do a complimentary-color scheme, so I just this random, abstract background. The line-things are in oil pastel, but everything else is acrylic.

Both The Technical Skill And Subject Matter Are Slightly Embarrassing...

Here's some more high school paintings--my first painting experiences, ever, mind you. These Parkour pieces were in my concentration and these two, in particular are probably the best painted Parkour ones...sadness...they did, however, make it into my art portfolio that I turned in yesterday to apply for the Art Major Program.

Drawing II Studies

1-23-09
Lips...I'm kinda glad they invented Facebook--I have tons of models at my disposal. (top 2 and left-middle=female others=male)

1-27-09
Once again, I thank Facebook. As a note to the female model: I'm sure you guessed it was you, but please don't take offense, I'm not good at doing my own hair, don't expect me to be good a drawing hair; and I added the ear because it was part of the assignment...

A Background

added: 1-15-11
Here's a piece I was working on, but now I've decided to quickly try and make it into a blog background for my college life blog--I found some code, but still need to work out the details.

Abstraction

I'm abstracting this picture for these thumbnails:
The first of my sketchbook pages containing the thumbnails for the abstraction assignment for 2D.

Everything above: 1-26-09
I actually did this last sketch-page in class today 1-27-09

Some of these I did last Wed (the left 2) and the right one I did last night with the others.

Last thing I sketched over the Christmas break. Colored Pencil. 12-29-08
Done sometime during the first week of January. I hate the ugly thing in the top corner, but the hippo skull is cool, especially with the mix of pen and pencil. (I did the pen outlines first, then went in with pencil for shading.)

These aren't the greatest quality sketches, but they're all for concepts--this is the stuff I did at the USU Museum of Anthropology with Megan, Kierstin, Katie, and Lindsey. 1/10/09 pencil

Some Assignments

Finished the eyes tonight. 1/20/09
Thanks to Jordann--I used one of your pictures for the reference of the bottom-right eyes. ;D

Did these 1/13/09 once again I used a picture of a friend, but I won't disclose whose--let's just say, if you post a picture on Facebook, you're at risk of being drawn from. Both of these are drawn on 11 x 14 paper.

Sketchin' S'more--That Sounds Good Right Now

12-15/17-08
I did this page in between performances (and during some, I'll be honest) at Lizzie's Ice Skating show of people in the crowd, sitting unsuspecting that they would forever be immortalized in the pages of my sketchbook.

This is some doodling I did on the airplane going to Orlando 12-20-08

Sketchin' Along

Sketches from Art History, Biology, and the Alexis Rockman lecture.
I did most of this from sitting in the hall at 7 AM waiting for my counsellor to get there at 8 so I could be the first to sign up for 2D Design.
Ideas, mostly, and some sketches while waiting to get in Bio (I was early to the class, as usual, and there was a class in the room, so I sat in the hall and tried to surreptitiously sketch people.)

Line Composition

The final product! This is white paper with the black cut-outs of the lines, mounted on a black poster. I was very pleased with how this turned out, and I got some good feedback in the critique today. People generally like the diagonal composition, though they liked the others. One girl also mentioned she liked the way I placed them on the board as they seem to lead the eye around to each piece from the top left and so on clockwise. My personal favorite is the top left, I love it, funny thing is I got the idea from an African painting of a tree--it was very stylized and I took some of the basic structures from the sketches I made of the painting and abstracted it with the lines. Very cool!

Thumbnails

These are the 16 thumbnails I had to do for our line composition project in 2D Design.
Horizontal/Vertical line composition thumbnails.
Curvilinear line comps.
Diagonal Lines.
Combination of the four types (horiz/vert count separately).

Mini Selfs

This is a quick comparison of some mini-self-portraits from my sketchbook. The one above is drawn from my Student ID card (on the plane to Florida 12-27-08). One of the flight attendants said, "Wow, that's beautiful!" I threw the quote in, 'cause I like remembering compliments.
This one is from 11-9-08 and, if I remember correctly, I did it off the computer.

Sketch Book

11-2-08
The start of my favorite part of my sketchbook--pretty much everything after this point (unfortunately, I'm just about half-way through the thing) is really good and I actually like to look at them often.
11-4-08
I like this one because when I got bored of all those gestures, I started abstracting them--my first true effort to expand that part of my skill-set

11-4-08

11-6-08
Another set of abstraction exercises, put to work with logo-style trees and simplifying pictures of weather systems, a red-rock canyon scene and a picture of a sandstorm.

Transformation

I post this because I might have to leave today for Logan and I don't know that I'll get back to it. (This is what I had done last night).

More Painter

This is my first "sketch" on Painter X, it's for a scene from the book I'm writing--I bet Jordann can guess what this is for...
This was the first thing I "painted" today, and it was more of an experimental/learning thing, which is why the background is terribly unfinished and the bat's right wing looks weird with the bright bone structure. Good news, though, I'm actually figuring Painter out and gettin' some skills!
